Midleton Bears v Springfield Ramblers D
Well done to the lads who had a great win in Midleton today. Goals were scored by Joseph Whittle, Darragh Heelin & Luke Hamilton. It was a well fought game & the lads from Cobh were fantastic, it was a very warm day & the lads coped well with the heat on & off the pitch.
U8 Springfield Ramblers News
Following a comfortable away win to Midleton the lads went on to lose their first game of the season at home to Blarney. They got themselves back on track with a very good away win to Rockmount & most recently was a very tough away fixture to Leeds. In this game they showed some great character to come from behind twice and win the game. While this team play some great attacking football the foundation of the team is the defence of Marc Jones, Morgan Dillion Hylton & Rowland Nsubuca who have been outstanding all season. Keep up the great work to all!

Springfield Ramblers 3 Leeds 1
The team started this game very brightly & created some very good chances in the opening 15 minutes but were unlucky not to finish them. Morgan Dillion Hilton & Marc Jones kept the Leeds chances to a minimum at the back & after Kyle Furmedge made a critical save the team finally broke the dead lock with a fine strike from Evan Roche. Leeds leveled the game within two minutes of the restart but with Tom Gill & Nathan O'Connell in midfield taking control of the game they went on to finish strongly with another 2 goals. This was a fine team performance a pleasure to see some great passing by all the lads. Thanks to Leeds for a great game & we wish them every success with their remaining games.

Springfield Ramblers v Rockmount
This was a good start to the league for Springfield Ramblers FC with a great team performance. With Tom Gill making some great saves between the posts, Morgan Dillon Hilton had yet another outstanding game at the back which gave the lads the platform to go on & win the game comfortably with goals from Alex McCarthy, Ciaran Griffin, Evan Roche, Nathan O'Connell, Marc Jones & Kyle Furmedge. Thanks to Rockmount for coming to Cobh for the game & we wish them all the best in their remaining matches.
Under 9 League
Springfield Ramblers v Temple 10th April 2010.
This was a very frustrating match for both parents and coaches to watch, for by the end of the first fifteen minutes we had had umpteen one on one goal chances only to be thwarted by the opposition keeper or to see our efforts just barely go past the posts and crossbar. Cian O'Mahony, Adam Delaney, Conor Walsh and Cíaran Fleming had so many chances to put us in an unreachable lead which any other day would have seen them go in the back of the net, but unfortunately not this day.
The breakthrough finally came just before the end of the first fifteen minutes after Springfield Ramblers put together a string of seven passes from our goalie Oisin Cronin to Karilos to Sean Damery to Adam Delaney to Cian O'Mahony to Cíaran Fleming who laid on a lovely pass for Conor Walsh to bury the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the opposition’s net with his weaker right foot.
Their goals stemmed from a lack of concentration on our part as we failed to clear our lines properly which led to us losing our first away game of the season. But the lads never gave in and kept fighting until the end but were unable to convert our numerous chances to make this a win. But two really good goals from Conor Walsh and Adam Delaney and constant threats and running from Cíaran Fleming, Cian O'Mahony, Conor Walsh, Joe Kahn Moss, and strong defending from Adam Delaney, Sean Damery, Karilos, Sean Manley Kelly and dependable keeping from Oisin Cronin kept us in the game. Temple only had six or seven chances in the whole game one of which was a penalty while Springfield Ramblers had so many it was hard to keep track of the final count.
This might not have been the perfect result but it wasn't for the want of trying. This never say die attitude will surely make Springfield Ramblers stronger and a very hard team to beat in future games as we get back other members of the team who were missing for this one. So as for now it's upwards and onwards.
Under 9 League
Springfield Ramblers 1-6 Temple Kop
This was our first league game of the season which we were beaten by a more physical and stronger side then ourselves. That said we played with great heart and determination throughout this game. Cian had a great game in goal making some great saves that kept the score line down, with our defence of Josh, Jamie, Olan and Kealan closing down as best we could and our midfield of Con, Sam and Courtney chasing every ball, to the tireless running of Luke up front. Even though we lost this game, we played well and tried our hardest which was great to see. Also well done to Luke for his goal inspired by Lionel Messi!

Springfield Ramblers v Corinthians
This was game of three periods of fifteen minutes. Each with something different to offer.
The first fifteen saw the home side start very slowly with only three shots on goal two of which brought fine saves from the away teams keeper and the third was a shot from Conor Walsh on his weaker foot which just narrowly missed the post. The opposition in turn converted their chances to go into the first break leading.
The weather up by the Water-tower pitch was blowing a gale which in fairness did effect the game for both teams.
The second fifteen saw the home team get off to a better start and soon had Corinthians on the back foot which had all their team defending from the six yard box for most of this period. We saw shots from Ciaran Fleming, Conor Walsh, and mazy runs from Sean Damery, Oisin Cronin, Ciaran Fleming, and Conor Walsh whose shots tested the Corinthians keeper's reflexes with last minute saves, or at the last moment the wind would send the ball the wrong side of the post. On the rare occasion that they managed to break from their goal they took advantage of our attack and broke quickly and scored against the run of play.
The final fifteen minutes saw Springfield Ramblers lay siege to the Corinthians goal only to concede from another counter attack. The pressure didn't stop from the home side till the final whistle but despite some heroic keeping from Karolis and some solid defending from Adam, and Cian and the rest of the team we couldn't keep a clean sheet but with the type of grit and determination displayed by Oisin Cronin, Sean Damery, Ciaran Fleming and Conor Walsh it won't be long before the lessons of this game can be learned and put to good use will be a stepping stone to a brighter future for a team constantly learning and improving.
Springfield Ramblers 0-4 Corinthians
This game was not all one sided as the score line might suggest, we gave a very good account of ourselves right from the off and were unlucky to go in 1 down after the first 15mins. However with the wind behind them in the 2nd 15mins, Corinthians scored 2 goals from free-kicks and 1 from a corner. That said, in the last 15mins we laid siege to their goal but it is was just one of those days with us hitting the crossbar 3 times. Throughout the team from Cian to Con and Colm in defence to Kealan, Jamie, Courtney and Sam in midfield and Luke up front, everyone played with good heart and determination which was great to see. Roll on the league next weekend, and again well done all involved.
Sun 28th March
Springfield Ramblers v Tramore of Douglas Sunday 28th March 2010.
The two Springfield Ramblers under 9 teams played two very hard fought matches against Tramore of Douglas. One lost 4 - 1 and the other 3 - 2. The latter as a whole put in a really spirited display and fought tooth and nail for everything which unfortunately did not result in a home win. A goal apiece from Olan Farrell and Ciarán Fleming saw both teams go into the final fifteen minutes on equal terms at two all. Karolis did superb in goal pulling off some fine saves and when put up front worked very hard. The back line of Cian O'Mahony, Sean Damery, Killian Hackett and Sean Manley Kelly worked really hard and supported our attacks when possible and put in another good shift. The midfield of Adam Delaney, Olan Farrell and Conor Walsh all worked tirelessly and closed down the opposition at every opportunity. Conor Walsh did his best to bring the fight to Tramore by driving on from mid-field with Adam and Olan either side of him. At the same time we saw some great tackles and running from Conor and Olan and nice passing from Adam. Ciaran Fleming and Oisin Cronin never stopped running and took their shots where possible but unfortunately for them saw their efforts either saved or deflected by the uprights. Ciarán did great work up front and then again when he swapped position with Karolis to go in goal and pulled off some really good saves. Oisin put in a physical display of a good centre forward and never gave up but unfortunately we conceded a late goal to lose 3 - 2. An unfortunate result for an ever improving team.
Academy Under 8s
Springfield Ramblers U8's were unlucky to lose this game as they were only one goal down going into the last 15 minutes. Tramore Ath showed their strength in going on to win comfortably in the end. Cobh fought hard and created some good chances but were unlucky not to finish them. There were outstanding performances by Morgan Dillon Hilton at the back, Tom Gill & Evan Roche doing trojan work in midfield & Nathan O’Connell & Ciaran Griffin creating some fine chances. This was a good physical game that will stand to the lads going into the league in two weeks time. Well done to all and keep up the hard work!
Sun 21st March
Both Springfield Ramblers under 9 teams won against Rockmount on Sunday 21st. One team winning 3 - 2 and the other winning 4 - 3 with some great play and running from mid-field from Conor Walsh, Sean Damery and Cian O'Mahony while the back line was governed by Killian Hackett and Sean Marley Kelly and in goal Oisin was ever dependable and a class apart as he managed to keep the the shooting to a minimum with a never say die attitude from the whole team brought four fine goals from Adam Delaney, Olan Farrell and two from Ciaran Fleming. All in all capped another great display from an ever improving team.
Springfield Ramblers beat Rockmount last Sunday 21st March 3 - 2. Having being 2 goals down going into the final 3rd, Springfield turned it around to win 3 - 2 in a close and hard fought match. Goals coming from Jamie Gilmartin, Con Lynch and an OG. Well done to the team for a great result. Looking forward to more of the same this Sunday when we play Tramore!

Rockmount 1 Springfield Ramblers 2
This was a great away win for the U8's who went 1 nil down against the run of play heading into the last 15 minutes. After this the team put in a strong performance to score 2 fine goals. They could have won this game by more only for some great saves made by the Rockmount keeper. Well done to all!
Our Academy had a very successful weekend with the three Under 8 Teams playing two teams from Ballincollig and a team from Leeside on Sunday the 7th. All three teams won their games with great results. It is great to see all the work thats going into the new academy programme paying off. |
